Pennsylvania is filled with great state parks to go camping. And Promised Land State Park is a great choice for that camping trip you are looking to take.
Located in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, it is a great weekend getaway for anyone in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey who is looking for a camping spot. Promised Land State park approximately 3,000 acres and 1,800 feet above sea level, on the Pocono Plateau has plenty to do, and in my opinion, more to do at this state park than other Pennsylvania state parks that we have been to. You can enjoy hiking, swimming, the beach, fishing, boating, hunting, and horse riding. And there are even some activities to enjoy in the winter, such as skiing, ice skating and snowmobiling.
This state park is definitely one to check out and here is how we spent our 2 nights, 3 days camping trip at Promised Land State Park of the Poconos in Pennsylvania.
Day 1 – Arrival at Promised Land State Park
We arrived around 1:00pm, pulling our RV into the campsite where we spent the next 2 nights and 3 days spending an enjoyable camping trip, just my husband and I. Once we arrived, we got setup, leveling out the RV, which took us a little longer than it has in the past. But once that was done, it was time to enjoy our trip and alone time.
After we got settled in, we decided to take a drive around the park to see what it all has to offer because as I already mentioned, we knew there was a lot of options. Through our drive, we discovered 2 different beaches, the hiking trails, a nice area to bike ride, and a lake where you can go boating.
One of the beaches we discovered was only a short walking distance from our campsite. So after our drive, we took that short leisurely walk to the beach, sitting there for a while, talking and enjoying the nice summery weather.
Once it got a little cooler and we didn’t have sweatshirts with us and it was around dinner time, we took the walk back to the campsite to eat dinner. After dinner, it was time to get the campfire going. Next it was time for a camping favorite—smore’s. I always make my husband roast the marshmallows because he does a better job at it then I do. He always gets the outside just the right amount of golden toasted with that perfect gooey center. Slapping that on a graham cracker with a piece of chocolate and you have the perfect smore’s. After a couple of those, we sat back for the rest of the night and enjoyed the glowing embers of the campfire, lighting up the dark night.
Day 2 – Hiking the Little Falls Trails
The next morning, we had a leisurely morning, fixing up a couple of breakfast sandwiches and enjoyed breakfast together.
After we were done with breakfast, we got dressed, packed a backpack and headed out for a couple hour hike. We drove to the hiking trails that we found the day before. I was never one to hike, but a while back, I bought hiking boots with the intention to start hiking. So being as my husband and I took this camping trip alone, I thought this was a great time for my first real hiking trip. Being that we love waterfalls, we started out on the Little Falls Trails so we can see some small waterfalls.
While this particular trail was a short one, we detoured onto another trail to make it a longer hiking trip. And I will say it wasn’t the easiest trail for a first time hiker. The ground was rough with a lot of rocks sticking out and roots from trees. Definitely not easy on the feet. And after taking our detour on a longer trail, at one point, we had to walk on unstable rocks over a river. Definitely not easy and little nerve wracking. But I made it through and I thought I did pretty well for my first time.
Back at the campsite, I headed into the RV with some much needed air conditioning to cool off. And we spent the afternoon at the campsite relaxing.
After dinner, we walked back over to the beach, sat on a bench, enjoying the view of the lake and ducks swimming and waddling around. It was entertaining to watch them as they would get pretty close to where we sat. Once it started getting cool again and dark, we headed back to the campsite.
We settled in for another night of a campfire and smore’s.
Day 3 – Swimming in the Lake
On day 3, we got up, ate breakfast, put on our swimsuits and headed to the beach and lake. We spent the rest of our 3rd day swimming in the lake. We floated, stayed cool and talked, joking around with one another in the lake. It was nice to have that relaxing time together.
Realizing it was time to go, we went back to the campsite, packed up and headed home.
Camping at Promised Land State Park is a camping site you should consider for your next camping trip. With the array of activities, you are sure not to get bored or run out of things to do. We chose hiking, the beach and lake, and swimming on our 3 day camping trip. Maybe next time will choose other activities to do.
